3D Pipe Thread Inspection System

A reliable 3D laser-based inspection system measures very small variations in pipe thread dimensions.

How it Works

Our reliable 3D pipe thread inspection system measures the tiniest thread height/depth, etc. variations using a laser scanner, specialized optics, and mirrors. The system is also capable of measuring the complete circumference of the interior of a threaded coupler or exterior pipe threads.
Detailed data can be rendered, compared against a standard, and stored for later analysis.

A Challenge Resolved

Coupler threads are difficult to measure when using mechanical gauges subject to individual use and interpretation. Artemis Vision’s innovative vision system is able to alleviate some of those struggles by automating the measurement process, which makes it repeatable, reliable and efficient. This system has returned highly repeatable thread verification results on numerous oil-field products for a large provider of OCTG pipe products. More uniform and functional pipes make things smoother for everyone along the process and erase the cost of quality downstream for reworking pipes.

This non-contact, in-line system provides realtime dimensions of pipe and yields instant measurement feedback to track drift and stop scrap before it happens.

How it Works

Among our pipe inspection systems, this one combines three high-dynamic range lasers with robust application software, which takes 360 degree measurements of pipe to ensure it is meeting quality standards and production specifications. Since offline checks can be time-consuming and costly, the system can step in and help eliminate inconsistencies in production, decrease scrap and reduce customer claims. Continuous monitoring results in consistent and repeatable results, allowing manufacturers to ensure their products meet specifications when they are delivered to the field.

In-line, continuous dimensioning techniques can validate the process, correct errors immediately, fix tooling, produce production data and efficiently control the quality of the product. Pipe Flare Measurement System

Our vision system for pipe flare captures fast and accurate measurements of pipe thickness, deformation, and expansion length, and allows for rapid analysis between lasers and previous and current readings.

A pipe manufacturer that was taking manual measurements needed to consistently produce stronger pipes with a uniform wall thickness at the connection without the risk of weak spots. They wanted more accurate, repeatable measurement results with a digital record of the data. The Artemis Vision system can be integrated into the production process, is less cumbersome than 3D scans, and stores data for every pipe scan.
